Benefits of Weighted Products
Proprioceptive input (sensations from joints, muscles and connective tissues that lead to body awareness) can be obtained by lifting, pushing, and pulling heavy objects, including one’s own weight. An individual can also stimulate the proprioceptive sense by engaging in activities that push joints together like pushing something heavy or pull joints apart like hanging from monkey bars. However, such activities are not always appropriate in the workplace or the classroom.
Weighted Animals and blankets are filled with a type of bead that makes them heavy providing us with unconscious information from the muscles and joints. This Deep Pressure Touch generates proprioceptive input on our bodies, slowing breathing and heart rate, and for many people, causes the release our “happy” neurotransmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine. These neurotransmitters released by the brain have naturally calming effects, which have proven to be beneficial for people experiencing sensory processing disorder, anxiety, stress, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and Rett Syndrome.

Sensory Regulation Wonderland® animals are made exclusively for our company, they are designed to have the weight evenly distributed and to have the exterior covering made of high quality and “life-like” materials for calming (or arousal), and the fur finish is designed to assist low arousal. Each animal has an internal lining so that in the event of the outer covering becoming damaged the filling, 100% non-toxic natural micro glass beads, will not leak.

How to use Weighted Animals
You may place them on your lap, shoulders, over your neck, and on your back or legs. Try to avoid placing it on your head. If you would like to feel that "buried" sensation, try climbing under a sheet or pillow with your weighted animal or lap pad over your shoulders or back.
Please check with your Occupational Therapist if you are starting weighted therapy. Not suitable for children under the age of 3 years.
