What Are Tangrams
Invented in China approximately 200 years ago, a tangram is a two-dimensional re-arrangement puzzle created by cutting a square into seven pieces - seven geometric shapes called "tans" (Slocum et al 2003).
The Tangram is a deceptively simple set of seven geometric shapes made up of five triangles (two small triangles, one medium triangle, and two large triangles), a square, and a parallelogram.
Developmental Benefits
Similar to building blocks, tangrams can teach children about spatial relationships. They can help children learn geometric terms, and develop stronger problem solving abilities.
When the pieces are arranged together, they enable the creation of an awesome variety of forms, embracing many numerical and geometric concepts.
They have also been shown to support improved performance on tests of basic arithmetic.
How To Play
Each tangram puzzle contains the following seven shapes:
2 large triangles
1 medium-sized triangle
2 small triangles
1 small square
1 parallelogram
Arranged correctly, the tangram Pop It shapes can be placed together as a large square, rectangle, or triangle. They can also be arranged in a variety of complex shapes, including highly creative ones (like you can see in some of our illustrations).
Although there is a variety of ways to play with tangrams, an ideal way is to encourage children to create their own imaginative shapes. More traditionally, tangrams are treated as puzzles.
Traditional Tangram Rules
The pieces should all be connected.
They should be flat.
No pieces may overlap.
The tans may also be rotated and/or flipped to form the shape.
All seven tans must be used.
Each completed puzzle must contain all seven tans.
SRW Fidget sensory tools can assist with:
Supporting mental health and reducing anxiety
Emotional regulation and sensory input
Focus and concentration - great study or work tool
Tactile awareness and desensitisation
Hand function – improving fine motor, strength and circulation
Managing stress
Active listening - can increase focus and attention
Reducing unhelpful habits - such as nail biting, smoking, tapping, hair twirling, pen clicking and leg bouncing etc.
Sensory seeking substitution - finding a more socially acceptable outlet for sensory preferences
Comes with instructions for a variety of designs in a nice container for safe keeping.
Two colour options for packaging: Blue and Pink.
